Emily is Darrek’s wife. They met on a blind date that was orchestrated by Jamie Connor, Emily’s best friend, who knew Darrek through Daniel, Jamie’s boyfriend and Darrek’s best friend.

After that first date, Darrek and Emily’s relationship progressed rapidly into a whirlwind romance, and it was not long at all before they both realized that they were deeply in love. They moved in together after knowing one another for only a few months, much to the surprise and trepidation of their parents and friends. Until she met Darrek, Emily had casually dated, even had a few one-night stands, but she had never experienced anything like the connection she felt with him. He is the love of her life.

At the time they started living together, Darrek was still working on completing his dissertation and teaching classes at Pitt for a very small stipend, so he sold his most beloved and valuable possession-his 1965 Aston Martin DB5 convertible-to avoid having to ask his father for money. After settling the sale, he took a road trip to New York to meet Emily’s parents and obtain their blessing in asking for her hand. He then visited Tiffany’s, where he purchased her engagement ring. Darrek carefully invested the remaining funds from the sale, which paid for their honeymoon, the down payment on their home, and created a comfortable security for their future together. He surprised her with a romantic proposal on New Year’s Eve under the city lights on the Grandview Overlook in Mt. Washington.

They were wed 11 months later on December 22 at Calvary Episcopal Church in PIttsburgh, and their reception was held at the University Club on Pitt’s campus. Most of the patrons of the Hive Arcana were invited to witness their nuptials, including Anita, Cyan, Dana, Carrie, Kay, Father Bob, and Sandra. Daniel was Darrek’s best man, and Jamie was Emily’s maid of honor.

Emily was born and raised in New York. She is the only child of her mundane parents, who are both hard-working, down to earth, good-hearted and decent people. Despite their initial hesitations about the pace of their relationship, both of Emily’s parents are extremely fond of their son-in-law and are very proud of his accomplishments.

Emily first came to Pittsburgh to attend the University of Pittsburgh, earning her BSN. She is currently employed full time as a nurse in the trauma/emergency department at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. A psychic, Emily is nurturing and empathic, and through her vocation is able to use her Gift to help others, something that both she and Darrek both feel very passionately about. She has a large soft spot for children.

Like her husband, Emily tries very hard to ensure that Henry feels comfortable, safe, and welcome in their home, and has tremendous empathy for the tragic loss of his parents and how this event changed his entire world. There is not much that she is not willing to do or give for him. Emily also greatly desires for her and Darrek to have children of their own, in addition to adopting Henry as their son.

Given her intuitive nature, Emily can be vulnerable to her own emotions as well as the emotions of others. Despite being a truly beautiful person both inside and out, she struggles with insecurity and jealousy at times, particularly concerning Darrek’s close friendship with Sandra. When angered, she is a full-on spitfire, as Henry has witnessed during the few disagreements she and Darrek have had since he came to live with them. However, no matter how intense their fights may seem, they can never stay angry with one another for long.

Darrek genuinely adores his wife; the deep love he has for her and his willingness to do whatever will make her happy is apparent to anyone who spends any amount of time with the two of them.
